If my people … A call to prayer for the Methodist Church in Wales

The Methodist people of Wales have committed to a special prayer initiative which sees focussed prayer move Circuit-by-Circuit around Wales over a period of 15 months.  The initiative has been spear-headed by the Rev. Paul Donnison, currently Superintendent of the Mid Glamorgan Mission Circuit. The primary focus is intended to be praying for renewal, mission and evangelism with creativity and imagination.

Circuits around the Wales Synod and Synod Cymru have “signed up” for a month each and are invited to respond as they feel led, so long as they carry the baton for the agreed period and call the people to pray. The Cardiff and Caerphilly Circuit has agreed to the final month – May 2020 – so this article is to make us aware that the prayer is happening and to invite us to join in, even before our turn comes around!  And please listen out for plans for the prayer month in our Circuit – and be ready to get involved!

Ideas for prayer activities and events could include:

  • prayer walks
  • prayer rooms and 24/7 prayer
  • pilgrimages to holy places and high places
  • prayer vigils and prayer stations
  • prayer meetings and prayer triplets
  • prayer diaries and prayer chains
  • prayer breakfasts, lunches or dinners
  • prayer and fasting
  • leafleting the community inviting prayer requests
  • preaching, teaching and courses on prayer
  • prayer for healing and wholeness during worship and prayer ministry at the close of worship
  • prayer for renewal and direction for our mission and evangelism
  • prayer for the world, the church, the community etc.
